    Samples that are not to be examined spectroscopically following a SEM-EDX measurement can be coated with carbon and also measured in high vacuum. In principle, the VP mode on the SEM means that vapor deposition can be dispensed if no SE electron imaging and no high resolution is required. For SEM-EDS, vaporization with carbon is common; gold is recommended for SEM photo documentation.

    Either the Emitech K450x or Edwards ScanCoat Carbon can be used for carbon evaporation
